Remembering Papa through the Rorouni Kenshin Movie

As the Rurouni Kenshin movie series about to end with “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final”, I can’t help but miss my papa who is an ultimate fan of Samurai X, the anime series version of Rurouni Kenshin. The photo below is from my graduation last 2009 – Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting.

Papa’s voice of yesteryears echoes the same time as I have written this movie review of the first Rurouni Kenshin movie 8 years ago. ”arang lamia ciguro ni ug esalida sa cine ate na ug mga tinood pa na tao ang nagda”

The past few days, I have been re-watching all the Rurouni Kenshin movies after I watched the 4th film “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final”. Like reading a book for the second or third time, the movie feels different. Point of view changes as you mature, this is the reason why it is recommended to read a book, watch a movie, or visit a memory at different times in your life. Through that, you will understand life and the world better.

From left: April, younger sis Niz, Papa, Me, and Daryl. Papa always up to fun whenever friends come over.

I used to watch it with the excitement of a Samurai X fan anticipating the actors and actress leading the role and looking forward to all the fighting scenes. Plus the overwhelming emotion of how papa could have enjoyed the movie knowing that it’s his favorite anime.

Re-watching the film, there are many scenes that I overlooked and completely forgotten, not that I remember all of it, but these parts of the movies are moving and have a high impact on the succeeding films or the story.

2011 Graduation. Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. I just noticed he wore the same polo during my 2009 BSMA graduation.

Now, instead of looking forward to the fight scenes and how handsome Takeru Satoh is, I tend to enjoy knowing the characters deeply and understanding them fully. I do not just laugh at the funny scenes but also fell in love with all the drama. And, it’s not just how beautiful the cinematography but also how amazing the background music adding the intensity of the emotions on each scene whether fighting or merely talking.

The Rurouni Kenshin movie is not just all fight and revenge but it gives us an idea of Japan’s history. It may not be that accurate but it gives us a glimpse of Japan’s tragic past and the samurai culture. It also reminds us to cherish our life. As per Master Hiko “The will to live is very powerful. Do not put your life in vain”.

Have you watched the movie? How was your experienced?
