As I continued to explore my new little hometown, Compostela, Cebu, I visited another restaurant in Compostela with my husband.
The location of the restaurant, Green Lagoon Nature Park, is a go-to place of the Compostelahanon and even nearby cities and townspeople frequently visit the place to swim and enjoy.
Lapyahan
Lapyan in English, means “shoreline”.
Ambiance and Atmosphere
The restaurant is situated inside Green Lagoon Park, near its shoreline. It is an open seating one-story bungalow building. The refreshing ambiance is because of the caress of the sea breeze. The bosa nova music adds charm to the restaurant. Its balanced volume allows people to converse with one another.
Food
Lapyahan by Green Lagoon in Compostela is best known for its seafood. The “paluto” style seafood menu lets you customize your dishes. You can buy a minimum of 300 grams of crab, shrimp, and squid and have it cooked based on what is on the menu. Crabs can be garlic butter, sweet chili, or steamed; Shrimp can be garlic butter, baked, sinigang, sizzling, or prito (fry); Squid can be calamari, adobo, grilled, or sizzling. Of course, fish is available. They have the regular katambak, malasugi, and blue marlin as well as special fish like tangigue.
We indulge in a feast of 650 grams blue marlin cooked into kinilaw and tinola. 320 grams shrimp prepared into buttered garlic, 480 grams (2 pcs) crab made into buttered garlic, 300 grams squid cooked into calamari, 4 cups of garlic rice, and fresh mango shake.
Palates vary from one person to another, and these recommendations are simply a reflection of my satisfaction. My overall food rating for Lapyahan is 4.5/5.
I love how the Kinilaw is seasoned well. It has less coconut milk, many spices, and the sourness suits me well.
In the tinola, they use Chinese cabbage instead of kamunggay (horseradish). No big deal as the soup is perfect for my taste and the husband’s. A little drawback is the limited soup which I think they minimize the water to reduce cooking time yet retain the fish flavor.
Both the crabs and shrimp are prepared in garlic butter. I wish I had requested to make it spicy, but overall, both are perfectly coated with garlic and butter and are savory.
I love how the calamari is not the typical frozen calamari sold in the market and grocery stores. You can identify that it is prepared fresh in the kitchen, and I can taste the squid more than the batter.
No dining experience is complete without a refreshing drink, and the mango shake here certainly hits the mark. Perfectly blended, not overly sweet, with just the right amount of milk to complement the natural flavor of the mango.
On our second visit, we ordered 1 Katambak fish (600 grams), the tail part we asked to be grilled, and the head part we asked to cook into tinola.
We also had pork binagoongan (300 grams) and I love that the bagoong does not overpower the taste of the dish.
Garlic rice for the husband and Pancit Guisado for me who doesn’t eat rice.
Lastly, we had kinilaw na tangigue (340 grams) and this time it had coconut milk in it but was still as tasty as during the first visit.
Service and Hospitality
There is only one waiter available during our visit and he is remarkable. Explains the process of ordering well, is pleasant the whole time, and is patient with all my questions. The turnaround time after we ordered was 20 minutes. The mango shake arrives first at 10 minutes, and the rest at 20 minutes. A different waiter was present on our second visit and still as kind as the first waiter.
My overall experience was truly delightful. The combination of dishes and inviting ambiance at Lapyahan left a lasting impression.
