I have been a bookworm for as long as I can remember. I have also been part of Cebu’s book community for quite some time and even co-founded the now-defunct Cebu Book Club.

Recently, I have seen an increase in the number of readers in Cebu, with various Cebu book clubs and silent reading sessions sprouting here and there. It’s such an exciting time for Cebu readers!

With this reading boom comes the rise of independent bookstores popping up across the city, each with its own unique personality and thoughtfully curated shelves.

What I love most is that many of these independent bookstores in Cebu also have cafes, making them bookstore cafes that offer the perfect combination of brews and pages.

Lost Books Cebu

Lost Books Cebu is not just an independent bookshop; it is also a bindery and publishing hub. The bookshop has a deeply curated collection of Filipino literature and is particularly rich in Visayan books and Bisaya-authored titles.

It serves as a true sanctuary for regional storytelling, making sure our own voices, culture, and language stay alive and celebrated on the page.

It is a charming place for reading and coffee, where you can easily lose track of time while lingering over a fresh cup of coffee and diving into your latest local find.

Flora and Faun Bookshop

Perfectly situated in one of the city’s newly renovated landmarks—Patria de Cebu—Flora and Faun Bookshop is a literary gem in downtown Cebu that offers both new and used books alongside a Cebuano-infused menu.

Beyond books, Flora and Faun serves as a vibrant creative hub, regularly hosting activities such as silent reading sessions, book readings with kids, spoken-word or poetry nights, and many more. It’s the kind of gathering place that makes you feel immediately connected to the literary scene.

I know coffee is life, but try their puto-sikwate set—it brings that same comforting feeling, along with a wonderful taste of home.

Dear Reader Cebu

A bookstore cafe located on the ground floor of an old hotel in what is currently the heart of Cebu’s creative district.

Dear Reader Cebu adds a gentle joy to getting lost in a good chapter with a warm cup of latte. It is a quiet refuge for Cebuano readers, offering the perfect blend of nostalgic heritage and literary escape.

Sincerely, Books

A white, minimalist sanctuary located on the ground floor of a modern condominium in the heart of Cebu City.

What I love about Sincerely, Books is how it bridges the gap between a cozy reading spot and a functional study and workspace, with Wi-Fi and accessible power outlets.

If you appreciate clean aesthetics, bright spaces, and a peaceful vibe, Sincerely, Books definitely deserves a spot on your Cebu book-hopping route.

Owl Stories and Spirits

Owl Stories and Spirits is a different kind of independent bookstore in Cebu because it is a bar rather than a cafe.

Also located in Cebu’s art alley—Atua Midtown—Owl Stories and Spirits is proof that a good book can pair well with an alcoholic beverage.

It swaps a morning espresso shot for an afternoon craft cocktail. It proves that great drinks and good literature belong together.

As Cebu’s local reading community continues to grow and new spaces sprout across the city, it’s truly an exciting time to be a book lover in Cebu. I hope to bump into some of you at the next silent reading session or over a hot cup of coffee or sikwate!
